Malcolm Mitchell, Super Bowl Champion and New England Patriots Wide Receiver, hosted the First Annual Literacy Luncheon where a panel including Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta CEO Donna Hyland and Delano Ford of Teach for America discussed literacy issues impacting our community today. Tracy Hixon of Kennedy Elementary, Holsenbeck Elementary, and Ken Nugent were recognized for their contributions to improving youth literacy.
Read with Malcolm is a youth literacy initiative founded Mitchell when he was a senior at the University of Georgia. The mission of the organization is to impact literacy by introducing book ownership to students in households where reading is not a priority and improve the reading skills of students who are reading below their grade level. All funds raised at the Literacy Luncheon will go to support the Share the Magic Matching Grant Fund, which provides programming and books to Title 1 schools.
